Through education BeeHive is nurturing future Malawian leaders & innovators
BeeHive School Project
Project Summary
Through education, BeeHive Elementary School is nurturing future Malawian leaders and innovators who will one day tackle the most severe problems faced in Malawi.
Niall Dorey, a trained primary school teacher from the UK, taught at one of the local private schools in Mzuzu, Malawi in 2001. In recognizing the need for a quality primary school in the city, he opened his own school in 2003 with just 8 pupils in the house he rented, with the philosophy that quality teachers will lead to quality education.
Since then, Beehive School has been growing steadily and has an excellent reputation in the area. The school has grown to 7 grades and close to 300 students. Niall has moved out of his rented house, and it still serves as the location of the school. The school has plans to build up-to-code, permanent buildings.

Issues
BeeHive is an excellent elementary school in Northern Malawi - they have everything a good school needs - skilled local teachers, nearly 300 dedicated pupils, an industrious/passionate director, and a solid curriculum. The problem is that, BeeHive's buildings have been deemed to "not be up to code" by the Ministry of Education, but BeeHive lacks the capital to build new, up-to-code buildings. BeeHive is in danger of being shut down if it can't find the funds for new buildings and needs our help. So now, the need to build the new school buildings is more pressing than ever before.
Goals
Our five goals to help Beehive School:
1. Raise funds towards the new Beehive School and community center facilities
2. Outfit the school with a computer lab and high-speed internet
3. Raise funds for community outreach at Beehive
4. Transform Beehive into a center for innovation
5. Attract qualified volunteers to build and teach at the school

Progress To-Date
BeeHive is cultivating future leaders that will be able to address Malawi's gravest problems. BeeHive is the only internationally certified school in northern Malawi and is providing their roughly 300 co-ed student body with a well-rounded education.
